Back to school ...?

One of the hardest decisions that I've had in the last few years is what I'm going through currently. I hate to bore everyone with the indecisiveness (again) but I feel like I just need some advice on what to do.

There are so many positive's that can come from going to grad school, but there are always going to be cons. Unfortunately, the money is the biggest con for me. To put things in perspective, I already owe 20,000 in loans from my Bachelor's degree. In order to get my Graduate degree I would need another 13,000. That's 33,000 in student loans. I just don't know if I can stomach that. I'm currently paying $300 a month for 10 years. Yes, I did say 10!! I really don't know if I can afford more than a $300 payment for loans alone. I mean, home girls got other bills too!

I'm trying not to be so negative but it really is such a tough decision to make. Anyone else had to make this decision? What did you choose?

I'm just at a loss.

  1. I am trying to decide the same thing! For me- it's come down to this: I need to have a at least a full year of full time work experience so that I'm able to choose the correct grad program.

  2. Tough call! Luckily, I didn't have undergrad debt, so I didn't have to worry about that. However, my MBA program was $20,000...
    You could
    a) hope the new president does student loan debt forgiveness (like me)
    b) wait a year or two before starting the program so that you could pay off some of the debt
    c) go ahead and start the program and worry about the debt later. After all, the goal of grad school is to get a higher paying job...

  3. I hear you completely! I had that situation and a required unpaid internship where I had to pay the school for Master's classes that I took on Fridays. It wasn't the best situation and I'm taking this fall off. On the plus side I absolutely love my degree and love my classes because I love teaching so much so it doesn't seem as painful.
