DIY Brush Cleaner

Typically, I wash my brushes with the MAC brush cleanser. I found a new easy recipe on Pinterest and decided to give it a try. My brushes came out perfectly clean with no old makeup residue left behind.
Since it was so easy, I gave you guys a play by play below. I hope you like it just as much as I did :)

Here's what you'll need:
1. 1 tbsp of White Vinegar
2. Hot water
3. Dirty Brushes

Here's what you do:
1. Fill a cup with hot water and add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar
2. Add the brushes and set a timer for 20 minutes.
3. At about 10 minutes, I pushed the brushes down to make sure that all the old makeup was getting out
4. After the 20 minutes is over, rinse them out with hot water and then again with cold water.
When I rinse the, I hold the brush facing down to make sure it keeps the shape.
5. Lay them out to dry overnight. I like to use a t-shirt rather than a towel just because it's recommended for your hair so I figured it would be good for your brushes too :)
Clean brushes :)

***I've gotten a lot of questions about the smell of brushes after they are cleaned with the vinegar. From my experience, there was absolutely no smell after they were rinsed, just brushes that were like new again :)

  1. Do your brushies smell like a furry pickle once they're dry?

  2. I have been on the hunt for a cheaper alternative to clean my new brushes! I need to give this one a whirl!

  3. i've wanted to try this but can't decide whether or not the smell will bother me.

i guess i'll have to just try it.

  4. Smell or no smell, it's gotta be better than the outrageous amounts nice stores charge for their brush shampoos. Trying this soon.

  5. Just found your blog from Whitney and am SO trying this like, right meow! I was JUST thinking this morning I need a new brush cleaner but hey, I gotz vinegar. I gotz water. I'm all set! THanks girl!

  6. I've been looking to buy brush solution this looks like it would just be easier to make my own!
